Personal Health and Wellness

  1. Based on a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate my physical well-being a 7. I have made great strides in this area over the past year and a half, but I still have a ways to go. I have lowered my BMI dramatically and have lost 55 pounds. Recently I have not been keeping up with my exercise regimen, however I have not gained the weight back. I really intend to pick back up, but keep making excuses.  Spiritually I would rate myself at an 8. While I do many things to develop my spiritual well-being, I forget to take time out for mediation and would like to increase my time devoted to this. My psychological well-being would be a 6. I do not keep a balanced circadian rhythm and this leads to imbalances in my mental health. I am often too tired from under or over sleeping and I tend to sleep and wake at varying times. I have four children as well, and find it difficult to handle the stressors involved with the related responsibilities.
  2. A goal for myself in physical well-being would be to start going to the gym or exercising outside three times a week, until I am ready to increase this amount. I would incorporate cardio, strength training and stretching. Spiritually I would like to take time to meditate each day starting out with maybe ten minute sessions and working my way up. Psychologically I would like to create a regular sleep wake cycle in my life. Maybe going to sleep around 11:00 each night and waking at 7:00am.
  3. I believe that I need to make my health a personal priority so that I am best able to take care of others. I need to remember that the time I take for self is not a selfish decision, but something I deserve and will benefit everyone in my life.

  1. Congratulations on the weight loss achievement! That is very exciting. Keeping up with the exercise is important. I have found that for cardio workouts it benefits me to work with someone else. My trainer and I do cardio together sometimes and its a great motivator. Getting enough sleep is also necessary. Unfortunately I do not have a regular sleep pattern either. It does create some challenges. Thanks for sharing and keep moving forward!

  2. Good for you on losing weight and keeping it off! Not too long ago, my sleeping pattern was all over the place, but with my new job I can't take the chance of having an off day because I can't sleep for an appropriate amount of time. I highly recommend making meditation a part of your daily life, even if it is five minutes of deep breathing on your drive home from work. It has really changed me and my life and I am not an avid meditator, but I hope to be as I grow in age, wisdom, and experience. I usually meditate while taking a relaxing bath by candlelight, I inhale good intentions and exhale bad intentions. I even do chakra cleansing too.

  4. It sounds to me like you are on the right path for sure. Just like the rest of us, we know what we have to do to get healthy, but we make excuses as to why we cannot. I am really tired of smoking, but I still cannot kick the habit. It always sneaks back up on me and I give right in. Finding that will power is all that I need to do to get prepared. The motivation is there but i definitely have a block about some stuff. I believe that if I can get into the right mind set that I can really start making things happen and get going down the right path. It sounds to me like you're better prepared than me. Good for you. I wish you the best!
